These Three Foods Are the Biggest Root of Dental Staining

Most people are self-conscious about their teeth in one way or another. For instance, not having pretty white teeth could make you hesitant to smile as much because you’re simply not comfortable with how your teeth look. Stained teeth are very common thanks to the food and drinks we consume on a daily basis. Some are much worse than others, however. Here is a list of three items you should avoid as much as possible to prevent having to get a teeth whitening.

  1. Coffee

Coffee is one of the most well-known drinks to cause teeth staining, but it’s hard for some people to give up their morning cup of joe. The good news is you can still avoid dental whitening even if you have to have your coffee in the morning. Drinking it from a to-go cup lid will reduce the coffee’s contact with your teeth, so you’ll have better odds of them not staining!

  1. Berries

Blueberries and blackberries stain your hands and clothes, so they will naturally stain your teeth as well. If you’re a berry fanatic, just be sure to rinse your mouth out with water after you finish eating them. Better yet, give your teeth a quick brushing!

  1. Acidic Foods

Tomatoes, citrus fruits and pasta sauce are all examples of acidic foods that could stain your teeth. The acid in these foods can break down the enamel in your teeth and cause the white to become more of a dull color. These foods have tons of nutrients, though, so just be sure to brush your teeth after eating acidic foods like these.

Over time, your teeth may require laser whitening regardless of the types of food you eat. Be sure to contact us for more foods that could be yellowing your teeth, or to set up a consultation for a teeth whitening procedure.
